CrossFit is one of the hardest workout routines you can do.  It involves breaking down muscle in every part of your body.  One of the things that many athletes struggle with is helping their bodies to recover after particularly intense workouts.  Here are a few supplements that can help quicken the recovery of your muscles and get you back in the box faster.

Deer Antler Velvet

Protein

Paleo Food to Help You Crush Your Next WOD

Let’s face it, there is nothing as intense as CrossFit.  The exercises that make up each WOD (workout of the day) are crazy tough.  They push your body to it’s absolute limits of endurance, both mentally and physically.  There is literally no better way to find the shortcomings in your diet than by doing CrossFit multiple times per week.

Paleo Foods to Avoid

Plenty of CrossFitters talk about what to eat and when.  And one of the most popular diets within this elite group of athletes is the Paleo diet.  Essentially it boils down to this.  Stop eating grains.  Wheat, oats, corn, quinoa, and couscous are all bad for your digestive system, and have been linked back to many forms of autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis.  Yes this means no bread, no cereal, no oatmeal, and no grits.  Rice is borderline Paleo, so you can eat it in smaller amounts.

Next to go are the legumes.  Beans are bad.  They contain enzymes that also eat away at your stomach lining.  Ever wonder why they cause so much gas and bloating?  Because they’re bad for you.  That’s why.

Dairy is the last thing you’ll have to drop to go totally Paleo.  Although there are many that say you can eat dairy if you don’t have any lactose issues.

Paleo Foods to Eat

paleo chocolate chip cookiesSo what are you supposed to eat?  Meat, veggies, eggs, seafood, fruits, nuts, and seeds.  Think like a caveman.  What would they have had available thousands of years ago?  That’s what you want to eat.  Why?  Because that’s what your body is designed to run on.

Most people that start on the Paleo diet tend to lose a good amount of weight.  Why is that?  The typical American consumes well over 200 grams of carbohydrates per day.  Our bodies are designed to run on somewhere around 50-75 grams.  What does our body do with those extra carbs?  It turns them into fat.  That’s why there’s an obesity epidemic in many parts of the world.

It doesn’t mean you have to give up everything you love though. There are some creative folks out there coming up with all sorts of foods that are Paleo safe.  Gourmet Paleo is one example.  They make grain free cookies and treats.  They’re lower in carbs and full of flavor.  In fact some say it’s they’re the best cookies in the world.

So if you’re into CrossFit and want to get in shape, check into the Paleo diet.
