Concern about projects has never been at a higher level. Project management is currently one of the most-cited career positions. Every company and organization has projects. Membership in the 25 year-old Project Management Institute PMI has swelled from about 8,000 to 100,000 in just the last ten years, 30,000 in the last year alone. Currently, over 1,000 books on project management are available from PMI. Yet we continue to get projects that are over budget, late, and fail in some significant way to satisfy the customer and the project participants.
While many people recognize and suffer with the failings of our current practices the bulk of today’s improving efforts are spent on doing a better job applying the same old techniques. In conjunction with the Lean Construction Institute and Vanry & Associates, Lean Project Consulting, Inc. has set out to change that.
